The Para-medical staff of Nishtar Hospital, Cardiology institute, Civil Hospital and other government hospitals on Thursday observed strike and organised a rally to press the authorities concerned for acceptance of their demands such as raise in salaries and a new service structure.

The staff protested at Nawan Shehr Chowk and held banners and placards in favour of their demands. Pakistan Para Medical Staff Association chairman Muhammad Akbar Shehzad, President Muhammad Bashir Joiya and General Secretary A D Kanwal said that if the government did not accept their demands, they would have to take direct action to protect their rights.

"The chief minister promised to fulfil our demand for better wages and a new service structure but there has been no progress," they said. They said that paramedical staff should be given the same health allowance and pay protection allowance as doctors and nurses. They demanded that all contractual employees and daily wage earners should be given regular jobs.
